note:  Vasari attributed the four episodes in the vaults to Raphael, however Cavacaselle (1882) gave them to Peruzzi; A. Venturi (1936) proposed authorship by Guglielmo di Marcillat; Baumgart (1931) to Penni; Nesselrath (2004) connects the vault scenes of Sacrifice of Isaac and Noah Thanks the Lord/Noah Leaving the Ark to Lorenzo Lotto. Henry and Joannides (2013) challenge this claim, particularly as it "would imply that Lotto made an undocumented return to Rome in 1513/1514" (p. 41).
