note: Image also used for woven sopracielo of Leo X; Vasari notes in 1550 work in the collection of Count Vicenzo Ercolani of Bologna that matches the description of this work ("Un Cristo a uso di Giove in cielo et dattorno i quattro Evangelisti come gli descrisse Ezechiel"); Cavacaselle (1882) was first to argue that this work was by Giulio Romano, but many have countered that the "high quality of invention"; Henry and Joannides (2013) return it to Romano on the basis of a design by Raphael, noting that "the morphology, the detail, the colouring and handling, and the execution in every part are entirely characteristic of Giulio Romano" (p. 110).
