note:  The woman in this painting bears strong parallels to the woman depicted in Raphael's La Fornarina, not only in features but also by virtue of the identical scarve and brooch taht make up her headwrap. A very similar likeness is also included in the frescoes of the Villa Lante al Gianicolo. A. Venturi (1920) posited this was the work of Romano; Joannides (1985) and Ferino Pagden (1989) argue that it is a collaboration between both Romano and Raphael.
